Progress Reported in Americas in Fight Against Corruption
US offering training in good governance for Latin Americans
Washington -- Countries in the Americas have made progress in fighting corruption, as evidenced by the adoption of election reforms in the region, says José Miguel Insulza, secretary-general of the Organization of American States (OAS).

The USAID/AAA Project organized this event along with
five other USAID international and national partners.
Cosponsors included the National Democratic Institute
for International Affairs (NDI), the International Republican
Institute (IRI), the International Institute for Democracy
and Electoral Assistance (IDEA), IFES, and the Asociación
Civil Transparencia Peru.

Workshop
on Strategies for Anti-Corruption Coalition Building
The Workshop on Strategies for Anti-Corruption Coalition Building sponsored by USAID/Bolivia in conjunction with USAID/America’s Accountability Anti-Corruption (AAA) Project took place in La Paz, Bolivia from 24 to 25 May 2005. Three regional Civil Society organizations (Proetica from Perú, Probidad from El Salvador, and Red de Contralorías Ciudadana from Paraguay) presented their experiences of coalition building. Additionally, as part of the workshop Partners for a Democratic Change facilitated a one day session on strategies for coalition building.

AGREEMENT SIGNED AT OAS TO STRENGTHEN FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION
The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) signed an agreement today to strengthen the fight against corruption in the Americas. The memorandum of understanding establishes a legal framework in which both entities will work together in anti-corruption efforts as well as state modernisation.
