Last Update: March 2000
This Compendium is part of an ongoing effort of the U.S. Agency for International Development's (USAID) Americas' Accountability/Anti-Corruption Project (AAA) to document national efforts against corruption. It is not a measure of corruption, nor is it an assessment of any nation's anti-corruption efforts. It is an inventory of the most significant anti-corruption steps taken by the signatories of the OAS Inter-American Convention against Corruption, since its adoption on March 29, 1996.
The Convention was originally signed by 24 countries at the Third Plenary Session of the OAS, held in Caracas, Venezuela, on March 29, 1996. It was later signed by the Bahamas (6/2/96), the United States (6/2/96), Guatemala (6/4/96), Trinidad & Tobago (4/15/98) and Canada (6/7/99).
This compilation, by necessity, is a work in progress and it is probable that some anti-corruption initiatives taken by countries have been overlooked. Therefore, the AAA project encourages your comments and contributions to this list. [Contact:Lilian Cabrera, Casals & Associates, e-mail: lcabrera@casals.com, Tel: 703-920-1234, Fax: 703-920-5750].
